mylifemyhiphop.com review of Slim Thug Boss of All Bosses

Back from a 3-4 year hiatus from his Gold Certified album Already Platinum Slim Thug returns with his latest release Boss of All Bosses. The album which is heavily represented by Houston; features members of his own click Boss Hogg Outlaws, Chamillionaire, Paul Wall, Scarface, UGK, and many more. The album seems more as a gift to his home city/state instead of just new material for hip hop community to enjoy. As far as growth from Already Platinum to Boss of All Bosses there hasn’t been much. Apart from Slim admitting that his last album was a disappointment to him and his record label there practically is no difference from this album and Already Platinum as far as lyrical content is concerned. Slim did mention (on I’m Back Feat. Devin Da Dude) some conflict he was having regarding working with Pharell instead of Mr. Lee for the first album but didn’t go into much detail which I wish he would have. The production for the album includes a list that ranges from Mr. Lee, Jim Jonsin, Mannie Fresh, to up coming producer Mr. Rogers. The album which dropped March 24 2009 debut selling a reported 150.000 copies.

00-slim_thug-boss_of_all_bosses-2009 Truthfully the beats on the album are actually quite remarkable and they carry the album from the intro to the final track. The majority off the better produced tracks are of course done by Mr. Lee but the best track on the album was done by Mr Rogers (Top Drop Feat. Paul Wall).  The most noteworthy track on the album is of course the best produced track on the album Top Drop Feat. Paul Wall. A song about staying strapped, doing it big, representing your city, and getting money (a simple formula).

Overall Boss of All Bosses is a 3.5 out of 5 and does a decent job as a traditional commercial southern rap album. I don’t know how someone could consider this one of the best albums of the year so far but I guess it’s just personal preference and taste.
