Jay-Z and A. Keys are scheduled to perform their collabo, Empire State of Mind at the MTV VMA’s. The show airs September 13 at 9pm and will be hosted by the same reject who hosted it last year(Russell Brand.) MTV needs to stop stunting. I know that Mike Epps or Katt Williams are available…
Anyway, Check out the song below:

Blueprint III promo
by ossy on Sep.01, 2009, under Music
Despite my issues with the lead single for Jay-Z’s newest album (and my tentative hopes for it overall), Jay-Z has been promoting this album out the ying-yang. I just saw this commercial he did for Rhapsody and it took me down memory lane.
The album is already spreading like wildfire throughout the net and this album got me jonesing for the official rip!
VIDEO: Jay-Z On Record Labels
by ike on Aug.27, 2009, under Music
From Diary of Jay-Z: The J To Of Jay-Z
“I went to every single record label, and they was like, ‘This guy is terrible. He’s nothing,’ ” Jay told MTV News prior to the release of The Blueprint in 2001. “I had to put [Reasonable Doubt] out myself, because nobody would sign me.”
That was back in 1996, when Roc-A-Fella records was born, not out of entrepreneurial expansion but, as Hova made clear, out of necessity. “I would press up singles and go to the record stores myself, collect $100, $200, come back, give them some more records,” he recalled. “It started like that.”
Jay wasn’t embittered by his struggle, though. If anything, it gave him a sharper perspective on the music business. “It made me appreciate it so much more,” he said. “No one gave me anything. They didn’t give me a record deal. I really just took my time and grew it step by step by step by step. I could have easily been like, ‘Maybe what I’m talking about ain’t right! Nobody wants to sign me!’ That would have stopped the suffering. But I didn’t.”
Venus vs. Mars: A female’s opinion on Blueprint III
by hersheykyss on Aug.27, 2009, under Music
What’s good mylifemyhiphop.com? Ya’ girl is back like I never left(even though I got censored a little last night). Alright, so it’s clear that everybody is waiting for September 11 to crucify and vilify or testify and signify (don’t sweat the technique with the “ify”… get a vocabulary haters) the quality of the Blueprint III. Whether we love him or hate him, everybody is talking about Jay-Z and that’s all that matters.
I’ve read several posts about Hov from my male colleagues on this site and they are not fresh. They are filled with comments that are like premature ejaculations. They are “cummin” too quick to a decision about the lack of quality they think Jay is going to show.(I got some Extenze and some Viagra for you fellas though! You know hersheykyss will hold you down!)
Everybody press pause-wait ‘til the album drops and then cop it. Listen to it. Listen again. Listen again. Wait a day. Listen again. THEN, have an opinion. You need to practice holding back and not busting that nut (I edited it already ike…can a chick live?).
Til then-
Remember melt in their mouth and not in their hand.

A Thought on Bueprint III
by ossy on Aug.26, 2009, under Music
I’m sitting here watching Fade to Black on VH1. It’s a great documentary featuring my favorite rapper of all time as he closed out his career and closed out MSG with a monster performance. Many of you must’ve seen this movie and cant help to be amazed at the musical star power. It’s like a who’s who of hip hop.
The most important part of the movie is when Jay-Z drops this gem:
“For me, the most important thing is inspiration. As an artist, if you ain’t inspired to work, then you start thinking. And once you start thinking you start forcing music.”
This got me wondering about Jay-Z. Up until his Black Album, his discography has been amazing with the exception of Blueprint 2 (to an extent). The reason I feel Blueprint 2 didn’t measure up to his other works was because of that quote. Jay-Z no longer has that inspiration. He approached his other albums with a hunger to make it in the business (Reasonable Doubt), to earn the crown that Biggie held (Vol 2.), take hip hop to the next level commercially (Vol. 3), to make the best album ever (Blueprint), and to show he was better than his previous slip up (Black Album).
Then Jay-Z came back from his self imposed retirement, and gave us two albums. Except for a few moments of greatness, his last two albums have been void of the greatness that early Jay-Z fans expected.
I can understand why this has happened to Jay-Z. He went from the artist side of the business to the executive. He saw that he was still a marketable product and that he could further boost his fortune. I also knew that the inspiration wasn’t there for him anymore. This was a guy who was removed from the streets and struggles that most of his fans could relate to. He went from hanging with grimy ass n-ggas like Beanie Sigel to romancing Beyonce in St. Tropez. He did what most people do with common sense, he grew up and lost touch with that inspiration. That being said, Jay-Z since his “retirement” has been forcing his music.
Now Jay-Z is coming back with his latest work, Blueprint III. I’m all over the place with this because emotionally I’m excited to hear some new Jay-Z. I hear the word Blueprint and I get excited because of the memories it stirs up. Rationally, I know that Jay-Z isn’t that dude who I grew up listening to. He changed and just going off what I’ve heard so far, he is still forcing his music and to make it worse he’s getting outdone by on his own song by Kanye West. I love Kanye but his ass shouldn’t be usurping the dude who went toe to toe on Renegade with Eminem. It’s not that Kanye hasn’t improved that much, it’s that Jay-Z degraded. Along with his becoming the kind of dude he mocked in Imaginary Player, he isn’t even there lyrically.
I still have hope. This guy is a genius with the mic and i hope he found that inspiration that will allow him to make a hit record. It would be a shame to tarnish that memory that “Jay-Z – Blueprint” incurs.
PS. The Jay-Z I remember didn’t wear a fucking scarf. What’s next n-gga, gay..ahem, skinny jeans?

The Dying Legend…

I ain’t talking about gossip
I ain’t talking about Game
I ain’t talking about Jimmy
I ain’t talking about Dame
With just those four bars right there who would you assume is spitting this freestyle? How about I give you one more line.
Let’s talk about facts
Dame made millions, even Jaz made some scraps
He could’ve made more but he ain’t sign his contract
At this point it’s pretty obvious it’s the gentleman in the picture above. Even though I wouldn’t call it a direct jab at his "foes" most people are taking it that way. I’m tired of these type of “jabs” in the industry, I wish rappers would just come out more and really state what they wanted to say ala Curtis Jackson.
On a side note, Jay I’m going to start riding with Ossy regarding your approach in attempting to promote/create buzz for your new album, it’s a little disappointing. You are arguably in the top 5 in a lot of listeners and critics book, but this isn’t something a top 5 Mc does. Your growth has stalled and it may be time to hang it up my old friend. In comparison to your one and only true rival Nas, you have failed to understand the importance of an artist developing his craft and mastering it. While Nas took on an industry you took on a trend; you have never been controversial. You have even to a certain extent been unwilling to acknowledge the situation and circumstances of the struggles and strife most your fans/listeners are going through with the current recession ala Young Jeezy. You haven’t evolved in terms of creativity ala Kanye West. So what’s the point, you made money and you dominated the game for many years. Do you really still have that passion you had when you made Reasonable Doubt or The Blueprint? Doubt It, so what’s the point…what else can I learn from Jay-Z by listening to your latest venture? I hope you understand Jay, it’s nothing personal but prove me wrong.
